One in three people in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus – that’s 18 million people with significant impacts on mental and physical health (RNID - June 2024).

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is the only UK charity that trains and provides assistance dogs for deaf people. We've been dedicated to transforming the lives of deaf individuals by pairing them with expertly trained hearing dogs to become the ears of their partner since 1982.

These remarkable dogs do more than just alert their partners to important and sometimes life-saving sounds they would otherwise miss like doorbells, alarm clocks, fire alarms and even a baby’s cry. They also provide unwavering companionship, emotional support and a renewed sense of independence. For many adults and children, a hearing dog is a lifeline - bridging the gap between isolation and connection, fear and confidence – and helping them reconnect with life.

To date, we've created over 2,800 life-changing partnerships across the UK, with more than 1,000 hearing dogs currently in service. Each partnership represents a unique story of transformation, empowerment and hope.

Our work extends beyond the dogs themselves; we offer a range of personalised services, including support groups hosted by people with lived experience of hearing loss themselves, and advice on assistive technologies, to help individuals with hearing loss navigate the world with confidence.
